QuakeCon has selected R1Q2 as the official tournament client this year. As part of this, I was asked to try to come up with a "stable" version for them to use. b5510 has been running pretty great for me and many others so I decided to hold off on any new stuff for a bit so that anyone practicing all have the same versions etc to play with.
I've also started work on some other projects outside of Q2 which are eating up my time. My primary test server for the R1Q2 server is also still offline, so any server-side stuff I want to test unfortunately has to wait until that's back also. It should pick up again around mid-August / September to fix any outstanding issues.

Hey Rich....talking of the next release.. When you do, could you possibly change the 'UDP downloading maps/tltf.bsp to Player' to:- 'UDP Uploading maps/tltf.bsp to Player'... ? Sorry...it just bugs me that's all... thx for all your effort m8.....r1q2 rules. Mart. ps...I could change and compile it myself...but then it would'nt be an original r1q2 and I would feel cheated hehe

Upload vs. download is not a point of view thing, it's a relationship. You download a file from a server, you upload a file to a server. This has been the convention since the earliest days of client/server computing. A more neutral term would be "sending" but this implies a peer to peer relationship and is more applicable in that context.

Well I guess if the server is in New York and you are in like Georgia then you should have it downloaded... But if you are in New York and the server is in Georgia then it should be uploaded..... You know up north down south...of course then you would need overthere and right and left loaded to. So it would get complicated so probably best to just leave it alone.

We could always amuse ourselves by coming up with neutral words for it... how about: transferring dribbling pushing stuffing ramming cramming blasting I am partial to the last one... a good server blasts those files out there.

My cable has been down for over a week now so R1Q2 development has again stalled for the moment... I have got some new things coming up though and as soon as I'm back online and get my build environment setup so I can release new stable builds, the regular weekly updates should resume .

Cable is still out and the fucking techs never call me back... so frustrating. I'm barely online at the moment with extremely bad dialup (4800bps bad) so forget any releases... even loading a webpage without images takes a good minute or two.

Well just a small update. HTTP auto downloading and demo translating is in the next build . Give or take internet and/or hurricanes, should be out before the end of the month.
