can't connect to server

when i use 'perl bitch.pl &' in the terminal it says "Connecting to server...   [FAILED] (connect error: Interrupted system call)". can anybody help me with this?

i found out that, well to get the bot online, try (where it sends user info) add a
snd ("NICK $botname ");

some ircd's require a little more fuckage during connection, i have alot of IRC experience, but just learning perl, good job r1ch, im going to learn alot from your shit =) thanks dog. well have a nice time.
