B A N G
R1CH's 3rd (working) Quake2 MOD

Updated! BANG 1.3 is out!
Lots of explosive changes and a new map!

Download the complete BANG 1.3 install from one of these mirrors (you should delete any existing BANG directory first). The download includes the server gamex86.dll too for those of you that want to run a server.

BANG 1.3 full client installer .exe from planetgloom.com, USA or r1ch.net, UK (3.14mb)
BANG 1.3 full client plain .zip from planetgloom.com, USA or r1ch.net, UK (3.53mb)
BANG 1.3 full source code .zip from r1ch.net, UK (268kb). By downloading this file, you agree to the terms of the Open Source Mod License under which the source falls. Includes MSVC6 project and linux makefile. No help will be given with regards to the source.

Once you are done downloading, head on over to GameSpy to grab Arcade to find some servers. If you run a permanent-ish server, email me and I will list it here. For today only most likely (03/03/2002), you can find a server at 216.37.2.25:27915. If it's empty, just stick around for a while and someone will probably pop on, or you can come to irc.edgeirc.net #gloom to find some people to play :)

I'm a firestarter...

What is BANG?
Welcome to the BANG homepage. BANG is a Quake 2 MOD by R1CH which emphasizes heavily on the use of hand grenades. Bah, so what? You throw 'em and they explode, right?

Well yeah, (didn't expect that did 'ya) but these "explosions" are very different. For example, the Swarm Grenade unleashes 8 killer flies which fly towards anyone in the area. Laugh as they struggle to run away, chased by vicious flies. Or the Force Grenade. Your opponent... just about to make that jump for the Quad... why not help him and push him a little too far, perhaps into that lava, or just make him crater. Infest your opponent and watch as he unwittingly infects other players, spreading death across the level.

Types of grenades
There a lots of the little things. Here is a list of them and what they do:

Normal Grenade
10 points if you can guess what this does. The normal grenade is slightly enhanced, it bounces some more. The Normal Grenade Launcher is slightly different, being more of a mortar launcher than a grenade launcher.

We shall use the "la-ser"

Fire Grenade
The Fire Grenade erupts into a small firestorm, burning anyone inside. The fire also spreads a little bit and lasts for a while. The Launcher allows you to fire the balls O' deth (tm) further.

Bio Grenade
The Bio Grenade throws out deadly spores which stick to any surface. These erupt when anyone passes near them, causing moderate damage. Best used to attach to tops of doorways where your opponent has less chance of noticing them.

Force Grenade
The Force Grenade throws out a high energy pulse which pushes anyone near it a LONG way. If you get a direct hit on someone with this, it will most likely pulp them into the ground. Great to cover your escape if you have to run (chicken).

Nuke Grenade
Firecloud. Flames. Blast radius. Earthquake. Blinding. What more could you want? There will be only one nuke grenade and nuke grenade launcher on any level. These will take 30 seconds to detonate with a nice warning siren telling you to get the hell back. When these things explode, you'll know.

Use the force!

Infest Grenade
The Infest Grenade may not look dangerous but it is. When it explodes, people in a large radius become infested and will slowly lose health. They will not notice this at first, but when they start coughing up gibs and dying, I think they will. The gibs they cough up can pass the infest on to other players who go near them for maximum damage. Be careful not to infest yourself, either. You can cure the infest by getting a medikit.

Swarm Grenade
Throw and sit back. Laugh as the little flies from hell chase your opponent down. Watch in glee as they hide behind doors and pounce on people walking through. Evil little things.

Laser Grenade
Throw this grenade and watch as some poor hapless soul walks into it's range, getting nicely lasered in the process. Lasts for about 10 seconds once the laser becomes active, and then explodes into 4 high-damage energy pulses.

Most grenades come with a launcher too, the launcher usually fires further, but the grenades are less powerful. The exception being the normal grenades: Use them in hand grenade mode and they bounce around with a dangerous explosion; use the launcher and they become mortars.

Read the readme in the client ZIP for important info!

OK ok, enough talk. If you want to play BANG, you need the client files! Choose one of these:
BANG 1.3 full client installer .exe from planetgloom.com, USA or r1ch.net, UK (3.14mb)
BANG 1.3 full client plain .zip from planetgloom.com, USA or r1ch.net, UK (3.53mb)

If you downloaded the .zip version, extract it with directories enabled to your Quake II directory using Winzip. If you got the .exe version, just run it and select your Quake II directory.
